8/30/10: San Diego Man Receives Heavy Sentence for Possessing Child Pornography — Former San Diego resident David Grummer received a 295-month prison sentence for 18 counts of receipt of child pornography and five counts of possession of child pornography, in a case investigated by the FBI and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The San Diego RCFL (SDRCFL) provided digital forensics expertise to investigators who pursued this case as part of Project Safe Childhoodlearn more.

Welcome to the San Diego Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (RCFL) web page. Our mission is to provide computer-related assistance to law enforcement agencies within San Diego and Imperial counties. Our facility has the distinction of being the first established FBI-sponsored RCFL in the country. Today, we are among the leaders, both nationally and internationally, in conducting research and development for tools and procedures for use in the computer forensic and law enforcement communities. We are also part of the growing RCFL network that is striving everyday to combat computer related crime by assisting law enforcement agencies in the areas we serve.

What is an RCFL?

An RCFL is a one-stop, full service forensics laboratory and training center devoted entirely to the examination of digital evidence in support of criminal investigations, such as, but not limited to—

  • Terrorism
  • Child pornography
  • Crimes of violence
  • The theft or destruction to intellectual property
  • Internet crimes
  • Fraud.

New Service Offering - Loose Media Kiosks

The SDRCFL is now offering the Loose Media Kiosk (LMK) preview tool to investigators. LMK enables users to review evidentiary data found on such items as USB devices, CD/DVDs, flash memory cards, floppy disks and Firewall media. There’s no charge to use the LMK, but investigators should call 858.499.7799 in advance to use the tool.
